Job Overview:
Aurora Dairies is seeking a skilled Farm Manager for a dairy farm located in North Tasmania, just 10 minutes from Elizabeth Town. The farm covers an effective area of 235 hectares, with 105 hectares under centre pivot irrigation. It currently milks 730 cows through a 50-bail rotary shed equipped with auto teat spray, auto drafting, and ACRs. This is a 100% spring calving farm that begins in early August, focused on maintaining high standards of animal welfare and sustainable farming practices.

The role includes the opportunity for accommodation in a family home, a vehicle, and potential employment opportunities for a partner on nearby farms if required.


Key Responsibilities: As a Farm Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the farm and ensure the safe, efficient, and productive running of all activities. Your duties will include:

  • Safety Management: Implement and enforce safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Staff Leadership: Manage and direct farm staff, ensuring teamwork and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Animal Welfare & Pasture Management: Ensure the highest standards of animal health, herd management, and pasture-based farming practices.
  • Feed & Stock Management: Contribute to feed management strategies to achieve production targets and implement stock rotations.
  • Farm Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records for stock, treatments, feeding, and equipment.
  • Farm Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the operation and maintenance of farm equipment, including tractors and side-by-sides.
  • Sustainability Practices: Implement environmentally sustainable farming practices across the property.

Ideal Candidate: To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Dairy Farm Manager or in a large-scale livestock operation, ideally with pasture-based farming.
  • People Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team effectively.
  • Livestock and Pasture Management: Proven skills in managing livestock and pasture in a dairy farm environment.
  • Tech Savvy: Willingness to embrace new technologies, such as Halter cow collar technology, to enhance farm operations.
  • Safety Commitment: A focus on safety and adherence to farm safety protocols.
  • Reporting & Computer Skills: Competence in reporting and using computer systems to manage farm data.
  • Problem Solving & Initiative: Ability to work autonomously and tackle farm challenges efficiently.
