Are you passionate about conservation and animal care?
Ngāi Tahu Tourism, one of Aotearoa’s leading tourism organizations, is on the lookout for a dedicated Kiwi Keeper to join the talented team at the National Kiwi Hatchery.
The National Kiwi Hatchery stands as the largest and most successful hatchery in New Zealand, having hatched more than 2,500 kiwi chicks since 1995. With an impressive average hatch success rate of 95%, we’re also recognized as a hub for kiwi research, juvenile kiwi care, and scientific data collection.
Additionally, the hatchery welcomes manuhiri (visitors) to educate and inspire about kiwi conservation efforts.
At the heart of our work is manaakitanga (hospitality), a core value that shapes how we interact with our visitors and our team. We strive to provide a warm and inclusive environment, treating everyone like whānau (family).
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking a candidate who:
- Has prior experience and knowledge in avian health and conservation.
- Thrives in collaborative team settings.
- Remains calm and composed under pressure.
- Is flexible and willing to work varied shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
- Can manage a diverse and dynamic workload with enthusiasm.
If you can imagine yourself saying, “Kia ora and welcome to the National Kiwi Hatchery,” then we’d love to hear from you!
The ideal candidate will have a connection to, or an interest in learning about, Ngāi Tahu values, te reo Māori, and the aspirations of our Ngāi Tahu whānui.
What to expect
The National Kiwi Hatchery is a unique, enjoyable, and safe workplace, and we’re committed to keeping it that way. As part of our recruitment process, successful applicants will undergo various checks, including drug and alcohol testing. Health and safety are paramount to protecting our team, visitors, and environment.
